Surveillance has never been a more complex issue than it is today. Bard College assembled an interdisciplinary team to create a conference around many topics in and around surveillance, with Edward Snowden as the keynote speaker. We connected right away, over numerous conversations bursting with ideas and creative energy.
Create a memorable, stirring, central image—and it had to represent the many facets of surveillance that the conference would address.
I wanted the central image to be iconic, and speak to the complexity of surveillance topics in the conference. The icon captures the duality of surveillance (being watched vs being the watcher), as well as a sense of eeriness and menace that pervades these topics. We developed an attention-grabbing color palette, centering on the use of a warm coral red.
We designed custom, event-specific items and environment design and sigange.
